Exloc Instruments UK Ltd was formed in 2012 to bring to the UK the success that Exloc Instruments Inc have been enjoying in North America for 20 years. Our staff have many years experience in the fields of hazardous area protection, especially Intrinsic safety. We are based in the North of England and serve all the UK and the Republic of Ireland. We are the sole UK agents for the GM International range of Intrinsically Safe Interfaces and SIL relays,  iSiS-Ex range of PC Terminals, workstations and monitors & Primation for their range of ATEX ethernet solutions

The GM International D1000 / D5000 series of universal mount Intrinsically Safe galvanic isolators provide a most simple and cost effective means of implementing Intrinsic Safety into YOUR Hazardous Area applications.

Exloc are also pleased to introduce the innovative new iSiS 1302 Thin Client Zone 2 lightweight terminal with ATEX, IECEx and Aex certification.

The Zone 2 Thin Client complements the existing range of iSiS-Ex products, specializing in ‘mission critical’ PCs, terminals and monitors for use in hazardous areas, particularly in the oil and gas sectors and offers the following features:

  • Certified for use in Class 1 Division 2, Class 1 Zone 2, ATEX & IECEx Zone 2 areas*
  • 1000 nit monitor luminosity.
  • Dual Core Atom 1.86GHz CPU.
  • Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Fibre Optic communications.
  • Choice of operating voltages; PSU built in.
  • Fully operational within -40°C to +60°C.
  • Internal temperature and humidity sensors; available for remote telemetry.
  • Weighs only 12kg and only 90mm (3.5”) deep.
  • VESA, yoke or panel mounting.
  • IP66 (NEMA 4 and NEMA 4X).

Exloc Instruments are also bridging a gap in the field of safe automation applications with network components that have been developed specifically for Ex and Hazardous areas.

When using Ethernet-enabled end devices in an Ex area, safe and reliable network technology is vital and the compact network switches and media converters we offer from PRIMATION Systemtechnik make it possible to lay both copper and fibre-optic cables in ATEX Zone 1 areas.

Transmission distances of up to 550m (multimode) and 2km (single mode) enable remote plant sections to connect to a central control system. The network devices have integrated, intrinsically safe optical interfaces in the form of FO transceivers.

Utilising a bandwidth of 1 Gbit, there is sufficient capacity to also transfer signals from high resolution cameras or full HD terminals. The devices are designed for use in temperature ranges from -40 °C to +80 °C and are extremely reliable, with an MTBF time of over 2,000,000 hours.

An aluminium version is available for Gas Zone 1 and Dust Zone 21, and a stainless steel version is available for use in Zone Mining M2.

There are some distinct advantages to using fibre-optic cables in the Ex areas including long distance

data transmission and minimum noise susceptibility from electromagnetic fields.

However, transmission systems themselves also conceal risks as when FO cable networks are used in an Ex area, it’s essential to guarantee that an explosive atmosphere cannot be ignited under

any circumstances. Danger can often arise due to excessive output on optical ports on standard switches.

To prevent this, PRIMATION uses special, certified transceiver modules which are connected upstream of the standard switches, thus limiting the energy.

Exloc Instruments have recently added the i-SAFE mobile range of Intrinsically Safe mobile phones and Intrinsically Safe smart phones to their portfolio of hazardous area solutions.

The ADVANTAGE 1.0 is a lightweight yet very rugged dust and water-proof industrial mobile phone with 3G/UMTS technology. It is ideal for use in extremely harsh conditions and in dangerous environments as it also features “lone worker protection”, based on the GPS and SOS function of the phone.

The ATEX Zone 1/21, IP67 certified INNOVATION 2.0  is designed for customers needing access to their existing IT infrastructure to control processes, look up documentation or calibrate field devices.

The phone supports all functions of the Android operating system and can be synchronized with Outlook. The operating system allows easy application development and use of commercially available standard programs, providing customers with an easily integrated, cost effective solution. Camera, Push To Talk functionality and lone worker protection are everyday useful features. High storage capacity and long battery life makes i-SAFE your reliable site companion.
