The new ECHA positive list is coming. For all those who have not yet come into contact with it: This list defines materials and substances that are suitable or not permitted for installation in drinking water systems. It will apply until 32st of December 2026 at the latest. All UK plumbers and wholesale distributors are affected.
In combination with the Drinking Water Directive, this means that the allowed threshold for lead will be reduced again; many products made from various (lead-containing) copper alloys will not be suitable anymore.
Too far? Not at all! If you delay switching to lead-free alternatives, you might end up with surplus stock. In the worst case, you might have to get rid of goods at a high cost. There is also a very basic question. Why should drinking water products contain lead in the first place?
You don’t need any of this. German manufacturer SANHA® has been providing lead-free press, threaded and transition fittings since 2009. These fittings are made from the future-proof copper alloy CW 724R. This is not only better for health – these systems also have high resistance to dezincification and are very long-lasting, as demonstrated by millions of fittings having been sold, installed and serving well since the introduction of these series.
